Two travelers re-evaluate their lives after meeting many interesting people while hitchhiking. Esperanza [Hope] and Tristeza [Sadness] need to get to Cuenca. The bus they're traveling on is delayed due to a workers' strike. They decide to hitchhike to Cuenca. They meet interesting people who make them reconsider the reason for their journey.
