With a brief overview of Mexico’s history from the start of Mayan civilization to its colonization by the Spanish, this documentary explores how Mexico’s dance and music has evolved over time through different influences. Mexico’s musical roots began in Mayan singing and dancing rituals, derived from the Mayan god of the sun, Itzamna. These roots were influenced by the Spanish along with African and Asian influences, which are still present in modern day traditional Mexican dance.
