How To Borrow Materials

All borrowers must fill out a Lending Agreement. Please download, fill out, and return the LENDING AGREEMENT FORM as an email attachment to la_films@unc.edu and copying riefkohl@email.unc.edu and joshuett@email.unc.edu.

  1. Once we have a copy of your form, you are free to borrow from the library. Please note that anyone who wishes to take out material from the collection must fill out a form. This includes persons sent to pick up films on behalf of professors, students, friends, etc.
  2. We will periodically ask returning borrowers to update their contact information.

Requesting Materials & Use of the Collection

Beginning August 1, 2020:

Faculty who need films for classroom instruction can make a reservation by sending an email to la_films@unc.edu and copying riefkohl@email.unc.edu and joshuett@email.unc.edu at least 10 days before the first day of the reservation. You must make your reservation via email. Calls to the Film Library phone at (919) 843-8888 may be delayed in processing. The Film Library will not be opened for walk-in borrowing. Once the reservation request is processed, borrowers will receive an email indicating that the film is ready for pick up and the due date for return.

Until further notice, we are able to process films for pick-up only. As soon as we are able to ship films again, we will note it on this website. All pick-ups will be placed in an envelope with the name of the borrower clearly displayed. The envelope will be placed in a box outside GEC 3203. Films can be picked up Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.

Films must be returned in an envelope to the box outside GEC 3203 by the due date. If additional time is necessary, please email la_films@unc.edu and copy riefkohl@email.unc.edu and joshuett@email.unc.edu.

Borrower’s Responsibility

  1. Materials, while in the possession of the borrower, are the responsibility of the borrower. The cost of replacing any lost or damaged films, resulting from the negligence of the borrower, will be charged to the borrower.
  2. If returning films through the mail, borrowers must package them securely and provide sufficient padding. This is to reduce the wear and tear on film cases and the films themselves.
  3. Borrowers must return materials on time.
